Wake and Bzdelik Getting CloserApril 12, 2010 | Jeff TiberiiThere has been only one confirmed candidate for the men’s basketball coaching vacancy at Wake Forest University. On Monday that lone contender - current Colorado Coach Jeff Bzdelik - was on campus interviewing for the job with Director of Athletics Ron Wellman.
According to sources, no official agreement between the two sides has been reached. Bzdelik is scheduled to meet with more University Officials on Tuesday and will be introduced as the new head coach of the Demon Deacons on Wednesday.
Bzdelik has been the coach at Colorado for the past three years. There, he has amassed an overall record of 36-58, and a Big 12 Conference record of 10-38. Bzdelik would replace Dino Gaudio, who was fired last week after three seasons leading the Demon Deacons. In those three seasons, Gaudio was 61-31 in the regular season, 23-16 in ACC play and 1-5 in the post-season.
Bzdelik and Wellman have a relationship that dates back more than 25 years. When Wellman was the baseball coach at Northwestern University, Bzdelik was an assistant basketball coach.
