WSSU receives grant to expand international curriculumDecember 9, 2011 | Keri BrownWSSU announced this week that the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded the funds to help the university integrate India into its liberal arts curriculum. India is one of the largest countries in the world in terms of population and is one of the fastest growing global economies. Dr. Joti Sekhon, director of International Programs at WSSU says the grant will be used for faculty development.
"The objective is to develop new courses focusing on India and infusing existing courses and knowledge about India's culture and society in a global context. We will select twelve faculty members to participate in a seminar which will take place over the next three years where they will study a variety of topics and issues relating to teaching and learning about India," said Sekhon.
Faculty in the Department of English and Foreign Languages will lead the content development of the program at WSSU. Sekhon says the money will also be used to host other activities on campus, including guest lecturers and multi-media presentations. WSSU also plans to create a webpage to share resources and information about India with the public.
