The Education Equation, Part 2
January 20, 2011 | Jeff Tiberii
Providing an education is not cheap nor simple.
For example, in Forsyth County 33 percent of the County's budget goes toward education - the largest allocation from the budget. That number can vary by county.
Beyond the federal allocations (about $66 million in Forsyth County), teacher salaries and pension plans, there come additional needs, such as class trips, extracurricular activities and the increasing role of technology in the classroom.
Despite all of that, many schools are not getting the support they need.
On Wednesday, WFDD reported on one school in High Point that has intervention techniques in place to prevent high school drop outs. Today, Jeff Tiberii explores the fiscal fragmentation and the prospective financial future of one local public school system.
