Sound Defenses

June 11, 2007 | Thibault Worth

A new study from Wake Forest University expands a conventional wisdom of ecology -- that animals mimic their better-defended cousins to ward off common predators. Until now, it was thought the deception was always visual. WFDD's Thibault Worth reports.

Jessie Barber is a post doctoral researcher at Wake Forest University. He co-authored the moth acoustic mimicry study with biology professor William E. Conner. The research was published in the May 29th issue of The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
