Rocking in a New Year with the Oldies

December 28, 2012 |

And the countdown is beginning as people prepare to usher in 2013.

In Winston-Salem, The Delta Fine Arts is hosting a 'soulful family friendly' New Year's Eve celebration. The event is Monday evening, December 31 at The Delta Fine Arts Center from 9 p.m.–1 a.m.

The feature entertainment will be THF featuring Joe Anderson. Most people probably know this group better as The Healing Force. Anderson and his wife created it in the 80's to promote African story-telling, culture and music.

But in the 60's and early 70's, Anderson was hot on the R&B scene, cut a few albums and performed in New York and Washington, D.C. Now his family will back him up as he revives some of his original songs. "We want to make people good. We want people to feel like they can come to a place and enjoy music that will sooth the soul," explains Anderson. "Playing the old school stuff that you can get up and shag and do your thing."

Anderson describes the style people will hear Monday as 'Now' music. A mix of his smooth R&B with a touch of current rhythms. On Dec. 31, there will be light refreshments, a silent auction and dancing. Tickets are $25 for single, $40 for couples.
