Reflection of Russell Peck

March 10, 2009 | Kathryn Mobley

Greensboro Police say the body of a man found in the Battleground Park woods is world renowned composer Russell James Peck. The body was found Saturday in a wooded area off Whitehurst Road. Police say Peck's death is a suicide.

On March 1--Peck disappeared from his home, which is near these same woods. Family and friends believe the 64-year-old took a walk on one of the trails. His wife Cameron reported him missing when he didn't return home.

Friday--the family will hold visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 3506 Lawndale Drive. Saturday there will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. at the church, followed by a committal in the memorial garden.

Peck was an award winning composer and his work is played by symphonies around the world.

WFDD'S Kathryn Mobley spoke with Bruce Kiesling, resident conductor of the Greensboro Symphony and one of Peck's friend.
