Perdue Vetoes Bill Seeking Abortion Waiting Periods
June 27, 2011 | David Ford
On Monday evening Democratic Governor Beverly Perdue vetoed a controversial abortion bill passed earlier this month by the Republican-led legislature. Calling the bill a "dangerous intrusion into the confidential relationship that exists between women and their doctors", Perdue used the veto pen to condemn "elected officials seeking to impose their own ideological agenda on others".
North Carolina Republican Party Chair Robin Hayes says he's disappointed that Governor Perdue vetoed the bill. He calls the bill a "good, reasonable, common sense bill that's important to folks making good decisions". Hayes hopes to overide the governor's veto.
