In July, North Carolina voters will go back to the polls. In a number of races, no candidate secured the requisite 40% of the votes in the May 8 Primary; thus, a clear winner was not chosen. The second primary will be July 17.
Guilford County Board of Elections Deputy Director Charlie Collicutt says polling sites will be active in all 165 precincts. According to Collicutt, the races involved in the second primary on the Republican side are lieutenant governor, commissioner of insurance, secretary of state and superintendent of public instruction. The race for a Guilford County Commissioner’s seat will also be in the runoff. Republicans Hank Henning and Jeremy Williams are vying to represent their party in Guilford County's District 6, in the western part of the county. After redistricting, residents there had no representation on the County Board of Commissioners.
Last week, Williams secured 2,482 votes. Henning captured 2,353 votes. Whoever wins the runoff will take on Democratic challenger Dan Miller. In Guilford County, early voting will be June 28-July 14 at the county Board of Elections, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
