Keep Your Dog Cool
July 2, 2011 |
This summer, temperatures in the 90's and high humidity create conditions that can be harmful to outdoor animals. Dr. Eric Taylor owns and operates Reynolda Veterinary Hospital in Winston-Salem. He says this summer he's already seen a few dogs who've gotten overheated. To help dogs cool off, especially if they live primarily outdoors, Dr. Taylor recommends the following tactics: wipe the pads of their paws with cool water, make sure they have access to a shaded spot, and add ice cubes to their water bowl. The ice will melt and keep their water cold longer.
