Independent Voters Want President's Attention

Across our state people are still abuzz about the President's visit. President Barack Obama is back in Washington after, spending two days in our state pushing his American Jobs Act. In Wilkes County, he spoke about the need to create more jobs. In Jamestown, he emphasized how improving our public education system would support that effort. Dr. Omar Ali is an associate professor at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His focus is African American and Diaspora Studies. Dr. Ali is a national expert documenting the concerns of Independent voters. On Tuesday, October 18, he heard President Obama speak in Jamestown. According to Dr. Ali, while the President and other politicians talk about how they plan to create new jobs, unaffiliated voters are frustrated with bipartisan politics. He tells WFDD's Kathryn Mobley there are about 1.5 million unaffiliated voters in North Carolina. But he says he believes that number would be higher if there were open primaries.
