Good News for Piedmont Gas CustomersOctober 5, 2009 | David FordPiedmont Natural Gas has announced its annual forecast of winter heating costs for its North Carolina customers. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the company's forecast projects residential customer savings in their overall winter heating costs of between 10 and 20 percent compared with last year's winter gas heating bill. That translates into savings of about $15 to $25 per month during the winter period. Because of the difference in temperatures across Piedmont's service area, individual customer savings will vary. Colder weather than forecast during the period could result in increased consumption of natural gas and higher bills. Last year, winter temperatures across Piedmont's service area ranged from slightly warmer than normal to as much as 7 percent colder than normal. Even with the good news for customers, many individuals and families throughout the Piedmont will nonetheless need assistance with meeting their home energy needs in the coming year. Last July, Piedmont Natural Gas introduced its Share the Warmth Round Up Program to help out. With Share the Warmth, Piedmont's customers can sign up to have their monthly natural gas bills rounded up to the nearest dollar, with the excess amount providing emergency energy assistance funds which are then distributed through the Piedmont's three-state service area. Information about Share the Warmth Round Up, including enrollment, is at www.piedmontng.com.
