Food Drive at University of North Carolina School of the Arts

March 24, 2012 |

Students at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts hope to fill a lot of shelves. They're collecting non-perishable food items this afternoon - and they want to collect 250,000 pounds of food.

All donations will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.

This is the first time UNCSA students have hosted a food drive. Housing Facility Administrator Romana Richmond explains why many of them are motivated. "With the state of the economy, many households are not able to make their mortgage or utilities. And there are thousands of school children impacted by this in the Forsyth County School System," she says.

The students are teaming up with students at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, who are also holding a large-scale food drive.

You can drop off all donations on the campus in the UNCSA Fitness Center parking lot until 5 p.m. today.
