Donnaha Park, A Cool Lure
April 13, 2010 | Guest Reporter Phoebe Zerwick, Photographer Christine Rucker
Newcomers have been drawn to the Yadkin River since Native Americans first lived in the region thousands of years ago.
In the 18th century, the Moravians settled here in part because of the abundant water in the river’s watershed. Later, industrialists harnessed the river’s energy. And today, our region’s most recent newcomers from Mexico and Latin America are drawn to the river to fish and relax.
Guest reporter Phoebe Zerwick and Photographer Christine Rucker takes us to Donnaha Park along the Yadkin River where one family enjoys a summer afternoon.
