Cone Health System Unveils Expanded Cancer Center

January 22, 2012 | Kathryn Mobley

Cone Health is about to open a million dollar expansion. This afternoon from 1 p.m.-4 p.m., it’s hosting a community open house at the Wesley Long Hospital Cancer Center.

20,000 square feet has been added and 16,000 square feet has been renovated, creating more private chemotherapy space, an expanded waiting area, new laboratory space, and an improved pharmacy.

There are now more patient examination rooms and space for counseling, a 100-seat auditorium, and two large conference rooms for education and community outreach.

The center will also show off two of the world's most advanced radiation systems used to treat cancer patients – Tomo Therapy and TrueBeam STx. The cancer center also features 73 works of art by North Carolina artists, including paintings and original sculpture. The price tag for the expansion and renovation is $15 million.
