Colleges and universities celebrate first annual College Radio Day
October 7, 2011 | Keri Brown
The College Radio Day Organization is encouraging college-based stations to register for the first annual event. The goal of the day is to bring national awareness to college radio and its programming. WUAG at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro will host a variety of activities on Tuesday, including a city-wide sticker scavenger hunt, and a music-themed movie night.
Danni Brower, Promotions Director at WUAG said the festivities also include special programming.
“Public Radio and college radio I think share a common listenership because both have this emphasis on independent alternative viewpoints and creative programming and here DJ’s have a lot of latitude to really push themselves and record their shows to create almost a portfolio. It also provides a low pressure laboratory,” said Brower.
Brower said the college radio station at UNC Greensboro gives real life radio experience to more than 60 students each year.
