Brunson Elementary School Will Turn MagnetFebruary 23, 2011 | Kathryn MobleyIn Forsyth County, Brunson Elementary School will not close, immediately. Instead a new committee will investigate relocation options for the school's student population.
Brunson Elementary is on North Hawthorne Road near downtown Winston-Salem. During the 2011-2012 school year, it will transition to a magnet school beginning with the kindergarten class. 89 students have applied for kindergarten and all were accepted. Students advancing to first through fifth grade who already attend Brunson will stay.
However, each subsuquent year, another grade will be added to the magnet program. So by the 2016-2017 school year, Brunson will be completely magnet.
WFDD's Kathryn Mobley attended a public discussion session during last night's Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education's meeting and has more.
