Black Bear Shot, Killed at PTI

May 31, 2011 | Kathryn Mobley

A black bear has been killed at Piedmont Triad International Airport. Tuesday morning, agents from North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services shot the animal this morning.

According to agents, the 198-pound bear had originally been on one of the runways. An airport security employee corralled it into a fenced area. They say it appeared to be injured.

Officials would not confirm if this was the same bear spotted Sunday in a Greensboro neighborhood.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says black bears are very shy. WFDD's Kathryn Mobley has more.
