Appalachian State University & The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts

January 28, 2013

Art at Appalachian State University in Boone just comes natural with artworks and sculptures placed all over campus compliments of the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts.

For the next three months App State will be reaching out to the community with expositions open to the public and after school programs for kids too. Young students can work with pencils and pens to hone their skills with Alyssia Ruggiero and Appalachian State Art Education students during the Turchin Center’s Drawing Club. Supplies are provided. Drawing Club dates and times are Tuesdays from 3-4:30pm, January 29 - April 16, 2013 in the Turchin Center Classroom 3200. It’s for children ages 6-12 and best of all the cost is free. On Wednesdays from 2:30-4:30 it’ll be Room 13 for children 6-12 from January 30-April 17, 2013. The Instructor is Vicky Grube, the cost is free and children can choose their own drawing and construction projects. Appalachian Art Education majors will be available for support.

To register, contact Alyssia Ruggiero: ruggieroaj@appstate.edu.

Art Expo 2013 opens on Friday, February 1 at noon. The event is sponsored by the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts and includes their Annual Juried Student Exhibition showcasing the art produced by talented students working in a range of media including photography, metals, clay, sculpture, fibers, graphic design, new media, drawing, painting and more. It’ll run through Saturday, March 16, 2013. Assistant Curator Brook Bower spoke with David Ford by phone from her office in Boone.
