Therapeutic Bedsheets and Center City Development in Greensboro

September 30, 2011

Precision Fabrics Group will market a new therapeutic bedding line to hospitals nationwide after a series of studies show the highly engineered bed sheets help heal and guard against pressure ulcers while also reducing the length of hospital stays.  The development of the Greensboro-based textile company’s DermaTherapy line represents a shift in thinking that makes bed linens an integral part of the treatment of skin conditions and pressure ulcers rather than just a housekeeping concern.
It’s an innovative theory that’s been supported in practice during a series of trials at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Wesley Long Community Hospital. Patients with DermaTherapy sheets developed fewer pressure ulcers during their stays, and those who arrived with ulcers have seen them heal more quickly. The length of hospital stays declined by 6 percent during the 90-day trial.

Lomax Properties and Bellemeade Development LLC are planning a 192-unit apartment complex on the former North State Chevrolet location in Greensboro, a high-profile piece of real estate near the Grasshoppers baseball stadium that opened in 2005.
If built, the “Greenway at Fisher Park Apartments” would  breathe new life into a long-vacant property near NewBridge Bank Park and could spur further economic development along the downtown Greensboro greenway.
Julius Register, plan review supervisor for the city’s inspections department, said the proposed complex would go up on a 4-acre parcel bounded between West Smith Street, North Edgeworth Street, Battleground Avenue and North Eugene Street. The project would abut a section of the future greenway.
