Where\’s the Soap?

September 26, 2011

The last episode of the television soap opera, All My Children, has finally aired. Now the field of national televised soap operas has shrunk from 12 to four. Guest commentator and WFDD media critic Mary Dalton recalls a time when soap operas were king of the airwaves. Dalton is Associate Professor of Communication at Wake Forest University, where she teaches film studies courses. She’s also the published author of The Hollywood Curriculum: Teachers and Teaching in the Movies. And she is a regular contributor to 88.5 WFDD’s Voices and Viewpoints.
