Growing Outside of the Classroom

January 13, 2013

StoryLine gives voice to everyday people throughout our community as they share the experiences that shape their lives. It’s a project of the ECHO network and is made possible by the generosity of Salemtowne, a continuing care retirement community, where every life shines and stories are celebrated.

In 1994, Dinah Reece was teaching 7th grade language arts in the Forsyth County Public School System. She engaged her students in a community project to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Winston-Salem. In this segment of StoryLine, she describes to the non-profit’s Director of Development Mindy Bloom how that effort laid the foundation for a deeper support of this special group.

Reece retired from teaching after 33 years. But she continues volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and has written the book, Cooking with Love: For the House That Love Built, to help the non-profit raise funds. It’s available at the Ronald McDonald House at 419 S. Hawthorne Rd. in Winston-Salem.
