Fighting for the American Dream

August 5, 2012

StoryLine gives voice to everyday people throughout our community as they share the experiences that shape their lives. Moisés Serrano was born in Cancún, Mexico, and has lived most of his life in Yadkin County as an undocumented immigrant. He worked hard in high school and was a straight A student at Starmount High School when he graduated in 2007. But now Serrano says his life is at a stand-still.

In this StoryLine segment, he describes to his close friend, Giovanna Karina Hurtado-Vargas the moment when he realized he’s not like most American high school graduates and that his life must travel a very different path. Serrano is 22 and works two jobs to support himself. His dream is to be a television journalist focused on politics. StoryLine is a project of the ECHO network and is made possible by the generosity of Salemtowne, a continuing care retirement community, where every life shines and stories are celebrated.
