World Aids Day
December 1, 2011 |
December 1 is World AIDS Day, recognized by nations around the globe. This year's theme is "Getting to Zero:" Zero New HIV Infections. Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS Related Deaths. In Winston-Salem, Aids Care Service President and CEO Katharine Foster says advanced medicines are enabling people to live longer with this disease. But that means now their needs are changing. The Centers for Disease Control first identified this virus in 1981. The first World Aids Day was held in 1988.
