Winston-Salem Police Officer on Life Support

October 7, 2009 | Jeff Tiberii/Caron Myers

A Winston-Salem police officer is on life support, another officer is in serious condition. And the suspect is dead.

Both officers are at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center; neither of their names has been released.

The suspect was shot and killed by the police officers. His name is not being released.

All of this follows a confrontation on Peters Creek Parkway Wednesday morning.

Forsyth County Sheriff Bill Schatzman tells WFDD news the officers were shot in what he calls 'critical' places. The officer on life support is a sergeant; the officer in serious condition is a rookie patrolman.

Sources tell WFDD news that at about 10:30 this morning police were dispatched to the Bojangles restaurant on Peters Creek Parkway. There had been domestic dispute between a man, recently released from prison, and his wife, an employee at Bojangles.

Sources also tell WFDD news that two Winston-Salem police officers confronted the man and he fled the restaurant. Behind the restaurants shots were exchanged. It's unclear at this time who fired first. Peters Creek Parkway was closed in both directions for more than an hour.

It is now reopened.
