Winston-Salem Mother Earns National Honor

One of the national missions of the food company General Mills' is Feeding Dreams. This campaign celebrates African American mothers by acknowledging their efforts to uplift their family and others in their community. Tuesday afternoon, the food company honored Dr. Pamela Dockery-Howard as the 2011-2012 Winston-Salem Feeding Dreams Outstanding Mom. Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of Essence Magazine Susan L. Taylor presented the award during a luncheon at Graylyn Conference Center on Reynolda Road. Dr. Dockery-Howard says she's working hard in the community to battling an exploding health problem, childhood obesity. Dr. Dockery-Howard is a pediatrician at Winston East Pediatrics, an outpatient facility for Wake Forest Baptist Health. She says in addition to talking with her patients, she gives workshops in the community on how to make healthy food choices. Nationwide, a total of 1,000 mothers are being recognized as Feeding Dreams Outstanding Mom.
