Wake Looking Hard at Bzdelik

April 11, 2010 | Jeff Tiberii

The Wake Forest Athletic Department is in talks with Jeff Bzdelik to become the next basketball coach of the Demon Deacons. Sources tell WFDD News that Bzdelik and Wake Forest Director of Athletics Ron Wellman have had several discussions over the past few days. According to these sources, an official agreement between the two sides has not been reached, but appears imminent. Bzdelik is currently the coach at the University of Colorado. ESPN.com reports that Bzdelik will meet with his Coloardo team at some point on Sunday afternoon. According to ESPN, Bzdelik will inform his team at that time he is leaving Colorado to accept the vacant coaching position at Wake Forest. Bzdelik has been the coach at Colorado for the past three years. There, he has amassed an overall record of 36-58, and a Big 12 Conference record of 10-38. Bzdelik would replace Dino Gaudio, who was fired last week after three seasons leading the Demon Deacons. In those three seasons, Gaudio was 61-31 in the regular season, 23-16 in ACC play and 1-5 in the post-season. Bzdelik and Wellman have a relationship that dates back more than 25 years. When Wellman was the baseball coach at Northwestern University (1981-1986), Bzdelik was an assistant basketball coach.
