WFU Coach/Player Will Speak About Life-Saving Surgery

February 9, 2011 | Jeff Tiberii

Wake Forest University's Baseball coach and one of his players are doing well.

That's according to doctors at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Monday, Coach Tom Walter donated a kidney to Freshman Kevin Jordan. The 19-year-old joined the Deacons baseball team last fall.

During his senior year of high school, Jordan was diagnosed with ANCA vasculitis, a type of autoimmune swelling caused by abnormal antibodies that attack a person's own cells and tissues. By last August, shortly after coming to WFU, Jordan's kidney function was reduced to less than 10 percent.

WFDD's Jeff Tiberii is at Emory Hospital and just stepped out of a press conference where both men spoke.
This weekend, Jordan and Coach Walter are expected to be released from the hospital.
