Two dead in Davidson County Hit and Run Accident

December 20, 2011 | Keri Brown

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a man and a woman were killed after they got out of a minivan on U.S. 52 and were struck by three cars as they tried to cross the highway. The accident happened shortly after 2 o'clock yesterday morning north of the N.C. Welcome exit .

Pam Kearns with the North Carolina Highway Patrol says the preliminary investigation indicates that the couple may have been involved in a domestic dispute.

"After the initial collision two other southbound vehicles ran over the bodies that were in the roadway and both vehivles returned to the scene. We are getting an indication that something was going on by phone records and things like that," said Kearns.

Kearnes said police are still looking for the first vehicle that struck the couple.

"We are looking for a 1995 to a 1996 Toyota Corrola or Camry and it should have left side damage which would be the driver's side and it should have headlight damage," said Kearns.

Kearns said the victims were dead at the scene. She said the state highway patrol is waiting for the results of an autopsy in Chapel Hill to confirm the woman's identity. The identity of male victim is unknown at this time.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Highway Patrol office in Lexington.
