Sunday, May 20, The Bobby Labonte Foundation will host the second annual Archdale Drug "Share the Road" Memorial Bike Ride. It will honor cyclists who have been injured or killed while riding on the open road.
NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte says he's had some close encounters with motorists while riding his bike and a cycling friend of his was killed by a motorist. Labonte wants motorists to recognize cyclists are people who also deserve to be on the road.
There are three courses on the "Share the Road" memorial ride: 50, 70 and 100 kilometers. All courses go through the rolling hills of Randolph County. There will also be live timing, scoring and trophies for category winners.
This ride will also raise support for the Randolph County Schools Backpack Pals program, which distributes backpacks filled with nutritious food to underprivileged schoolchildren on Fridays.
