Safe SurrenderJanuary 11, 2013 | Today in Greensboro, some people are turning in their guns. According to the Greensboro News & Record, the city is sponsoring, Safe Surrender. It's a two-day event when people can anonymously dispose of unwanted guns and ammunition.
Weapons are being turned in at Saint Matthew's United Methodist Church, Bessemer United Methodist Church and Christ Wesleyan Church. Officers are collecting unloaded weapons and ammunition. Organizers say extra security and special officers are also on hand. The event runs until 2 p.m. this afternoon and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The idea for the voluntary program was suggested by Councilwoman Dianne Bellamy-Small following the December mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.
