Piedmont Physician Applauds U.S. Supreme Court Ruling

June 28, 2012 | Kathryn Mobley

Nationwide, medical professionals are digesting how our healthcare system is changing. Thursday morning, U. S.
Supreme Court Justices ruled the most controversial aspect of the 2010 Affordable Care Act is constitutional.

In a 5-4 decision, they said the Individual Mandate that requires all American citizens to buy health insurance or pay a penalty, does not violate the U.S. Constitution. This is scheduled to begin in 2014.

WFDD's Kathryn Mobley spoke with High Point physician Dr. Grace Terrell. She's president and CEO of Cornerstone Health Care in High Point. It has more than 80 locations in the Piedmont with more than 300 physicians. Dr. Terrell believes today's ruling will make it easier for Piedmont practices to change how they deliver patient care. Dr. Terrell is also the author of MD 2.0: Physician Leadership for the Information Age. It looks at how the U.S. healthcare system evolved into its current state and how new technology can impact its future.
