New children's book features African American princess

December 4, 2009 | Kathryn Mobley

Imagine watching your casual doodles come to life in a fantasy children's book. And imagine your book appearing in bookstores across the country.

This is happening to Monroe Tarver. He's the illustrator and author of Imagia and the Magic Pearls. He says got the idea for the book in the late 90's while working for a printing company in Winston-Salem.

Monroe now lives in Charlotte and is creating three more books based on the character, Imagia. Learn more about his work at Tales from the Mapmaker.

WFDD's Kathryn Mobley spoke with Monroe about his motivation for this book.
