National Bank Transfer Day Came and Went
November 7, 2011 |
Saturday, November 5th, was national Bank Transfer Day. People who have accounts at large banks were urged to transfer their assets to a community bank or a local federal credit union. Nationwide, members from various Occupy groups collaborated with small banks and credit unions in their area to help people transfer their accounts. Occupy Winston-Salem member Andrew Hobbs says in Winston-Salem, some Allegacy Federal Credit Union branches were open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Hobbs says he and other Winston-Salem members joined the Occupy Charlotte group and marched on Bank of America headquarters on Trade and Tryon Streets. According to Hobbs, about 200 people participated. He says like himself, most Occupy members don't oppose wealthy people, but they do object to wealth gained through corruption. Hobbs says during the protest no one broke through their lines to use the ATM machine at the bank.
