NC Shakespeare Returns to Stage

April 17, 2012 |

Shakespeare will again come to life in High Point. The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival is returning to the mainstage. President and CEO Wil Elder says the new season begins in September with the play, Romeo and Juliet. The play will mount in the High Point Theatre. Last year, the state general assembly cut funding to this non-profit and to a number of others as it struggled to create a workable budget. So The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival canceled its 2011 season. According to Elder, the group has spent the past year developing new funding sources in order to reduce dependence on the state. Elder says the state has given $25,000 dollars towards the group's $1.8 million budget. This is NC Shakes's 35th year.
