NC's Annual Tax-Free Weekend for School SuppliesAugust 3, 2012 | Audrey FanninNorth Carolina's annual tax-free weekend for buying school supplies began this morning at 12:01 a.m. and will end at midnight on Sunday.
The sales tax exemption covers clothing, shoes, and school supplies costing less than $100, school instructional materials of less than $300 per item, and even computers costing less than $3,500.
There are limits to the tax exemption, though: you'll still have to pay sales tax on jewelry, cosmetics, furniture, and items used in a trade or business, among other things. Visit the North Carolina Department of Revenue's website for more information.
