There's good news for Triad tennis fans.
On Tuesday, Wake Forest University broke ground on a new tennis complex. It'll be the site of the last ATP tournament played before the U.S. Open is held.
School and city leaders staged a ceremonial groundbreaking for the 13-court facility. Construction began in February and it's scheduled to be completed in July.
The inaugural Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest University will be held in late August. The timing of the tournament makes it an important tune-up event for the grand slam tournament, the U.S. Open, which begins on Aug. 29.
