Malt-O-Meal Opens Asheboro Plant

September 29, 2009 | Caron Myers

Minneapolis-based Malt-O-Meal Company, the nation's largest family-owned cereal manufacturer, opened its newest production facility in Asheboro on Tuesday. The Asheboro plant - formerly the Unilever plant - boasts 350-thousand square feet on 33 acres and is adding 133 new jobs to the community.

The Asheboro facility will produce two of the brand's most popular ready-to-eat cereals - Frosted Mini Spooners and Frosted Flakes. As a way to celebrate the grand opening and fight hunger in North Carolina, Malt-O-Meal's president and CEO, Chris Neugent, announced "The Million Bowls Program" at Tuesday's ribbon cutting. He says from now until October 9th, Malt-O-Meal is challenging North Carolinians to purchase Malt-O-Meal cereals and register their purchases online at www.MillionBowls.com. For every registered purchase, Malt-O-Meal will donate 10 servings of cereal to North Carolina food banks.
