High Point Overt Drug Initiative

August 14, 2007 | Larry Schooler

Tonight, (Tuesday 8/14/07), the High Point police department has invited community leaders, prosecutors, and a roomful of alleged drug dealers to a meeting at police headquarters. It's part of the department's "Overt Drug Initiative", a strategy to combat drug dealing and the other crimes that often go along with that dealing. Police say dealers use dozens of homes in a single neighborhood to deal drugs out in the open, and things often get violent. Larry Schooler went to one of the neighborhoods where the department tried this strategy to find out how it has worked.
