Guilford County parents believe the public school system is keeping them informed on how their children are doing, according to surveys put out by the school system.
Last night Superintendent Maurice "Mo" Green shared these results and many others during a public meeting called the State of Our Schools. It was held in the High Point Theatre on Commerce Drive.
Green applauded his staff, faculty and students for the system's 2011 graduation rate of 83.1% - up from 80.7% the year before. The North Carolina graduation rate is 77.9%.
Green said that this graduation success could easily change if the North Carolina General Assembly refuses to increase education funding. According to Green, Guilford County's school system has cut its operating budget by 39.6 million dollars over recent years.
Students from several area schools in the system participated in last night's event. This was the third year for Guilford County's State of Our Schools meeting.
