Greensboro Comic-Book Store Named World-Class ShopJuly 26, 2009 | Caron MyersThere’s a store in Greensboro that is rated one of the top 16 comic book stores in the world along with stores in Israel, England, Canada and various other places around the globe. Last week, the staff at Acme Comics - Greensboro's oldest comic book store - waited anxiously to find out if they were the winners of the Will Eisner Award. The award is like the Academy Awards of comic book stores and was to be announced at the San Diego Comic-Con – an international convention of all things comics. While Acme did not win the gold, they are still raking in the green, as WFDD’s Caron Myers found out. And did you know, within stories about the Hulk, Spiderman, Batman and X-Men, were comic books on President Barrack Obama, his wife, Michelle Obama, and Caroline Kennedy? It's true. And here's some scoop: In the coming months some of the comic industry's top artists and writers will be making celebrity stops to the Greensboro store. Acme Comics is located in the Lawndale Shopping Center in Irving Park. Their website is www.acmecomics.com
