Montlieu Elementary Academy of Technology in High Point recently received a $5,000 grant from the National Education Association. The money will be used to develop a parent learning community.
Elizabeth Foster, President of Guilford County Educators said through the learning community, parents will learn about increasing literacy skills and how to use educational technology with their children.
"They have received some iPads for the students and are using technology in the classroom. I'm not certain that parents have had access to an iPad or know what that is all about - so the students can show the parents what they are learning," said Foster.
Foster said she is meeting with administrators and parents to develop more topics for the workshops. She said the parent learning community at the school is expected to begin in February or early March.
The Guilford County Association of Educators collaborated with Montlieu to apply for the NEA Urban grant. Only 25 were given nationwide
