Gay Basher Turned Gay Advocate

February 12, 2007 | Audrey Fannin

The issues of homosexuality and gay marriage are among the most divisive in the US today. The Winston-Salem chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays is holding a daylong series of events featuring Reverend Dr. Miguel De La Torre, Professor of Social Ethics at Iliff School of Theology in Denver. De La Torre is an ordained Southern Baptist minister whose own conversion from - as he calls it - gay basher to gay advocate began some 15 years ago as he worked with a young man in his church.
