Frank Flores RemembersMay 26, 2008 | Bradley GeorgeOn Memorial Day, the Forsyth Veterans Council honored those who serve in the U-S military with a special ceremony at Ernie Shore Field, before a Winston-Salem Warthogs game. Two Purple Heart Veterans were part of that ceremony. The Purple Heart is a medal given to soldiers who are wounded or killed in combat. Retired Army Seargent Frank Flores grew up in rural Colorado. His military service began in 19-68, at the height of the Vietnam War. Although long retired from the Army, Flores is involved in numerous veterans organizations including the Forsyth County post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he currently serves as Post Commander. Last week, WFDD's Bradley George spoke with Frank Flores about his family history of military service, his combat injuries in Vietnam, and his commitment to fellow veterans.
