Former Winston-Salem City Council Member Wins House District 71 SeatNovember 7, 2012 | Keri BrownDemocrat Evelyn Terry, a former Winston-Salem City Council member and longtime community activist, won the House District 71 seat against Republican Kris McCann.
This was Terry’s first time running for a state House seat. She says her community involvement helped her win the race.
Terry will take the place of state Rep. Larry Womble. Womble, a Democrat, had represented House District 71 for the past 18 years but announced in February that he was not running for re-election.
House District 71 is heavily Democratic and covers south-central Winston-Salem.
