According to Yadkin Riverkeeper Dan Naujoks, bodies are collecting on the shoreline in the lower section of the lake...just below Abbott Creek's off Saint Matthews Church Road.
Naujoks says two staff members from the North Carolina Division of Water Quality also witnessed the fish kill.
WFDD News called Thomasville's City Manager and Public Service Director to find out if they were aware of today's fish kill. Both were unavailable for comment.
Between mid-July and early August, as much as 15.9 million gallons of sewage spilled into North Hamby Creek, which feeds into High Rock Lake. City leaders believe the untreated water escaped from a collapsed man hole.
Thomasville will spend more than 140-thousand dollars to investigate the spill and pay fines levied by the North Carolina Division of Water Quality. Fines total a little more than 35-thousand dollars.
The city will also hire outside companies to analyze the city's sewage-collection system, investigate employees' reactions to the spill, and evaluate data from the sewage treatment plant about the cause, duration and expected environmental impact of the spill.
