Denton Offers Incentives, Puts People to Work

In Davidson County, one town has a plan to create new jobs. Denton city officials say they've created five grants for anyone or any business that establishes itself in Denton. Mayor Scott Morris says the goal is to create 150 jobs over the next five years. One grant gives a business $250 dollars toward its utility bill if they hire a full-time employee. Another grant offers $500 to $1,000 per business for capitol improvements, such as signage, landscaping, or painting. As of September, 2011, the unemployment rate for Davidson County is 11.3 percent. Mayor Morris says there are about 100 small businesses in Denton. And the current population is just over 1,600. According to Morris, all of the grant money is coming out of the city's promotional fund.
