Decoding the Affordable Care Act

November 18, 2011 | Audrey Fannin

WFDD hosted a community conversation on the Affordable Care Act last night at the Odeon Theartre in Greensboro.  Many members of the audience brought their questions for the panelists, such as who will be left out of the expanded coverage and what will happen to the insurance companies.

TR Reid, health journalist, commentator and author of "The Healing of America," spoke about what the bill does - and what it doesn't do.  "It's not a government takeover of medicine, it's not a job killer - in fact the economy has added about 2 million jobs, a third of them in healthcare.  It's not going to cut the deficit, and reprehensibly, it's not going to cover all Americans."

Other panelists included Marian Earls, Medical Director for Pediatrics for Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine; Mark Hall, Wake Forest University law professor specializing in health care law and policy; and E. Benjamin Money, Jr., President adn CEO of the North Carolina Community Health Center Association.
