Construction Begins for Playground Built in Memory of Murdered Hickory Girl
April 13, 2012 | Keri Brown
Hundreds of community members are banding together in Hickory, North Carolina over the next three days to build a playground in memory of 10-year-old Zahra Baker. WFDD's Keri Brown is at the building site and joins us with live updates on this amazing story.
Zahra was killed by her stepmother in 2010. Elisa Baker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is serving 15 to 18 years in prison. The community has struggled to make sense of this horrible tragedy.
