July 12, 2012 |
Several Piedmont churches are teaming up to help others beyond their walls. This week is designated as Community Serve. Members of Calvary Baptist Church are organizing various outreach events. And director of community ministry Alexandra Gaskins says the project is creating opportunities for other churches. Also this year, the churches are also focusing on childhood hunger and educating the public of the growing population of youngsters in Winston-Salem and Davie County who don't have a reliable food source. Other outreach events include sports camp, bible studies, community cookouts and free dental care. According to Gaskins, Saturday, July 14, the group will host its first annual 5K and Fun Run at Salem Creek Greenway. People are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations. The race begins at 8 a.m., the walk begins at 8:30. It'll be held behind Hamricks at Market Place Mall. Learn about other events at http://communityservetriad.com/
