The event, called “Cycling Sunday” helps promote a healthy lifestyle for families.
“It’s kind of a street celebration to get people out cycling and share some information with them about their options for cycling around town. A big part of what we are trying to do is get people outside and get them active, so we have partnered with the Forsyth County Health Department on this program,” said Matthew Burczyk, Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for the city.
“Cycling Sunday” is also open to scooters, skateboarders, and roller-skaters. Burczyk said last year’s event drew around 600-700 people to the downtown area.
“It’s a great event. It gets people downtown and that’s the other benefit. Maybe they haven’t been downtown in a while and they don’t know about all of the redevelopment that is happening and all of the other improvements in the arts district,” said Burczyk.
There's no charge for the event and helmets are required. Participants can register at the Spring Street entrance to the Forsyth County Public Library. The event will take place from 2:30-5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
